Zinc has been the foundation of hot dip galvanizing since the very beginning of the industry. Without it, the process simply does not exist but at the same time, zinc also represents one of the most significant operational costs in galvanizing.
Melting at 419 ยบC as pure element, the galvanizing bath is rarely composed of zinc alone - Al, Fe, Ni, Pb, Bi, Sn, Cu - either as impurities or alloying elements to support the process. Together, they can reduce viscosity, improve dross cleaning, reduce frequent quality defects, adjust coating thickness and even ensure a long kettle life, or... do the exact opposite.
That is why frequent and consistent control of the zinc bath is essential.
It provides real visibility over the metallurgical melt and allows informed decisions regarding zinc and alloy additions.
When additions are carried out correctly and consistently, the result is clear:
better coating quality, improved process stability and lower operational cost.
